Now I’m in trouble

July 30, 2008 at 6:40 pm (Uncategorized) ()

John took his first steps today. He was quite proud of himself, giggling and smiling the entire time he went back and forth between Bry and I. The most steps he took was 4 and then he got too excited and plopped to the floor.

Formula issue resolved and other stuff.

July 26, 2008 at 6:07 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

So the doc called me back and let me know as long as he’s getting 20-24oz of formula, his vitamins, and some sort of dairy every day, he’s fine. She also said that I could start him on whole milk in 2-4 weeks. I’ll try it in two and see what happens.

I also brought up his hydrocele and mentioned that I was not pleased with the other urologist who wants to play wait and see for at least another year or so. C’mon it’s a communicative one. So she is having me call Land. on Monday to see if they have a pediatric urologist. If not, she has a referral to another one off post for me. I’ve been told so many times that kids bounce back faster from surgery the younger they are. It’s probably because they are less mobile, but this kiddo is quite active these days.

He’s become a pro at walking with only one hand. He’ll even walk side by side with you instead of right in front of ya. John likes to lead ya wherever he wants to go. It’s really cute. Last night for bathtime he picked up his dirty shirt and led me to our room and he chucked the shirt across the floor to the laundry pile and squealed with glee. Then he toddled off to the bathroom where he knew his bath was waiting. Once more, he was proud of himself. It seems like he’ll be trying to do that all by himself here soon.

Busy day

July 25, 2008 at 7:48 pm (Uncategorized)

Instead of lounging about the house all day and trying to be quiet while Bry slept, we all went out to a few events around here. Bry felt well rested for a change so he joined us.

Stop number one was to the ACS birthday party. It was nothing exciting, just free USO hotdogs and DVDs. John tried the bounce house and didn’t like it much. Ah, he got to be on AFN with a ton of other kids when they released the balloons and sang Happy Birthday. When they air it I’ll look for the link and share it here. He held on to the silly thing better than I did. :P Oh and all the ladies there adored John. He had his photo taken quite a few times. Soon as I get them, I’ll post those too.

Number two was the Tech Expo at the CAC. It bored me quite a bit but the freebies made it worth it. Let’s put it this way, I have enough salt water taffy to have a cavity in every tooth and enough pens to not have to buy any for at least a year. On a good note, it got John to sleep, he was bored too lol. We even walked around the base, made the trip to the post office as an excuse to go for a walk and it worked.

Finally, we ended up back home where we vegged the rest of the evening. And now I’m rather tired and everyone else is asleep, might as well join them before the “I need mommy” cries start in the middle of the night.

Formula go bye bye?

July 23, 2008 at 6:32 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

Recently John changed his eating and sleeping patterns and we’ve adjusted well to them. For the past two days now he’s put up a fight taking formula, period. He’ll only take a couple of ounces from each bottle and forget it. I have tried putting the remaining in a sippy cup and he just gets furious. Then I offer one with water while his tizzy is going on and then he’s happy as a clam. I’ve talked to my mom and her hubby (who is a doc) and they both say that cutting him off now is ok. I just wanted some more opinions since quite a few of you who read this are mommies.

He does love his cottage cheese, cheddar, and yogurt. John gets a proper portion of those each day.

On another note, he now says, “mama”, “dada”, “nana”, and “*insert kitty hiss sound here*”. He looks at me and says mama, asks for dada while he sleeps, says nana after eating a banana, and the hiss noise when he sees a cat. All four in one day. I swear he’s an over achiever sometimes. lol Seriously, all the mobile things he did in one day, five teeth in the matter of a week, and now four words in one day.

My big boy

July 18, 2008 at 6:23 am (Uncategorized)

Yesterday we had a WIC appointment that I was feeling irked about before we even got there. I am just so used to them saying he’s not drinking enough formula despite how big he is as it is. I was taken by surprise yesterday. John is now 24 pounds 12 ounces and 30.5 inches tall. Holy friggen cow! So he’s within the 90% and up for his age right now. The woman there was finally pleased with his intake and growth. He even had fun at the office too. They had the climbing mats set up in the room that they ask all the questions. He loved it! So I left there more at ease and they gave me some more feeding advise but I appreciated it since his pediatrician never gives it. Time to give him the real stuff! Soon as all his baby food is gone he’ll be getting straight up real food. About time! We have given him some of it already for the past two months but we’d only share what we were eating. Now he can have his own plate…woot, plate not bowl!

Rather Belated Friday’s Feast

July 14, 2008 at 12:57 pm (Uncategorized) ()

Hubby and baby are napping and I had tons of sleep last night. Free time…wow. Here it goes!

Appetizer

When was the last time you had your hair cut/trimmed?

I think it was two springs ago.

Soup

Name one thing you miss about being a child.

Being clumsy and it was cute. Now it’s not so cute. :P

Salad

Pick one: butter, margarine, olive oil.

Olive oil!

Main Course

If you could learn another language, which one would you pick, and why?

German…cuz I live in Germany…have for three years. Pathetic that I don’t know more than a few phrases, I know.

Dessert

Finish this sentence: In 5 years I expect to be…

back in the US, have one more kid, and be down to a size 8.

Got around the silly SanDisk issue

July 14, 2008 at 11:48 am (Uncategorized)

Alright, I now have fixed the photo problem with my SanDisk. At least for the time being. I found the lovely USB cord for the camera since the card has issues with my printer now for some reason. Be expecting photos that I’ve been meaning to put up for ages now…like photos of my garden and of John playing in his pool. I just might do a slide show to make things a bit easier.

Planning a vacation

July 14, 2008 at 7:05 am (Uncategorized)

Bry came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted to go on a trip somewhere in September after he has his language class. Right off the bat I named off quite a few places, Sardinia, Neuschwanstein, Amsterdam, and Rome. He asked me which one had the highest priority to me. Sardinia and the castle have tops for me with Sardinia playing the place my dad was at in the Coast Guard card…so we really gotta go there. I want to put the ashes I have of him in the Mediterranean Sea. He loved his time there and his class ring is out there somewhere in that sea. That and after seeing Bonneville, it seems like the right thing to do. Sure my new faith says that ashes are to be buried, but my father wasn’t Catholic so I’m not going to abide by that. His registered religion was Native American and he really embraced that part of our heritage. I know I don’t look like it, but you could tell by looking at my father. My sis and I look more German.

Hopefully, we can do both the island and castle. He’s going to take two weeks leave, so it all depends on how much we save. The backpay still hasn’t hit yet, so hopefully that gets to us before then. :P

I just looked up flights to Sardinia and they are about 20 Euro per person. That’s pretty awesome! Granted, that’s without the taxes, so it might not be that great. At least I have something to look forward to in a couple of months aside from a first birthday party!
