Niece due in June!

February 26, 2008 at 6:44 am (Uncategorized) (, , , )

My sis-in-law called the other day to let us know she’s having a girl! I’m so excited for her! Now I’m on the quest to find an under the sea themed cross stitch birth announcement. So far I’ve found Finding Nemo and I’m sure that won’t do well. I didn’t get to talk to her myself due to me putting John down for bed, but I was able to feed messages through Bry. I must say, it feels strange giving advise to older siblings. We’re also going to get her a sling since ours was a Godsend to us and maybe some nice fleece blankets.

On a different note, I can’t wait for taxes to come in. A new wardrobe and iPod are waiting for me. Bry took my broken iPod to the Apple store and we’d have to pay 150 Euro to get it fixed because they’d have to send it to headquarters. With the exchange rate these days, I’d rather just buy a new one…and I am. Oh and my eye has been on the Peter Pan movie I grew up with. It’s from 1960 with Mary Martin as Peter Pan. On Amazon they want about $120 for it but I have found it elsewhere for loads cheaper. I know I seem Peter Pan obsessed these days but it is a really magical story. I love it! My book came in the other day thanks to a gift card and reading it reminded me of the movie I grew up with. “If I don’t have my tie I can’t go to dinner. If I don’t go to dinner I can’t go to work.” Silly George Darling who can’t tie his tie.

Spring Cleaning

February 18, 2008 at 4:17 pm (Uncategorized)

There’s just something about sppring coming near aside from the runny noses, sneezing, and watery eyes that gets you in the mood to clean. I had enough of the crap we had just lying around, taking up perfectly good space. First job to tackle was the bookshelves. We had lousy self-help books given to us. Cheesy books we half read and didn’t care to have any more, and other things. We needed to make room for new, fresh, and wanted books. Having done this, it made me go on a spree through the entire house. And now we’ve organized the basement. Senitmental stuff I’ve kept since High School is now in the trash bin. I don’t need old Clovis High Planner covers with scribbles all over. Nor do I need the annoying as hell homecoming mum with cowbells on it.

After sorting all that crud out, I feel refreshed. Yard sale anyone?

Simple Pleasures

February 12, 2008 at 12:40 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Two Sundays ago John learned to blow raspberries. It was only once then. He seemed to save up all his muster for Ash Wednesday and raspberried all through mass. It was funny and embarrassing all at the same time. He had the choir and the first two rows of pews laughing. Last Sunday, he only mildly did it, thank goodness!

Also, a couple of weeks ago I got frustrated trying to put him to sleep by patting him on the back and rocking him. I gave up and just put him in the crib. Before I knew it, he fell asleep. This method has worked every time. Naps are started to get that way too, falling asleep on his own with only mild fussing. Wahoo!

This morning Bry left early and I heard Cinnamon scratching at a door, so I got up, figuring Bry accidently trapped her in the bathroom. She had just been clawing the hall door and then I thought I heard music. I paused outside John’s door and listend. I did, in fact, hear music. To my great surprise when I opened the door, John lay perpendicular to his crib toy and I saw the blue glow of the lights on the toy. Crickets played and so did a soft lullaby. He was smiling and squirming, feet up at the button that turns the toy on. I was so happy that he finally figured out how to get it going by himself.

Evan Almighty and Lent

February 6, 2008 at 5:57 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

At first I was really reluctant to rent this movie. I thought it’d be a giant mockery of one of my favorite Old Testament stories. Instead, it got me to wake up a bit.

Here’s this modern day man, doing is own thing in life, career driven, and tossing his family aside. Then God gives him this task, this unbelieveable task. The man just pushes it aside for a while until things just keep happening that he can’t ignore it any longer. Everyone thinks he’s crazy, just like the original Noah. Everyone then thought ol’ Noah was bonkers until the first raindrops came down. And the flood that happend in this movie was symbolic as well. The corruption (mainly bad politics) was washed away. It all got me to think, what would I do if God gave me a task I thought were nuts? Would I push it aside and ignore it, or would I get right to it?

My favorite line was from Morgan Freeman, I might not be exactly correct with the line, but it goes like this, “You ask for patience, I don’t give you patience, I give you the opportunity to be patient. You want courage, I don’t give you courage, I give you the opportunity to be couragous. You want to be closer to your family, I give you the opportunity to get closer to your family.” That patience one…yeah, I’m still getting the opportunities for it even though I stopped praying for it.

This is what I will do for Lent:
1. Try not swearing again.
2. No alcohol
3. No sweets
4. No going out to eat

Hopefully I can kick the swearing thing. I know if I can make it 40 days without swearing, I can make it the rest of my life. Besides, I might expand my vocabulary on the way.

And my celebration for Fat Tuesday included finishing off my chocolate chip cookies and then polishing off a bottle of wine with Bryan. Our temptations are out of the house and I managed to get quite the buzz that lasted through two movies. Whew!

Stuffs

February 2, 2008 at 7:39 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

I’ve been meaning to post here for about a week or so now. It’s been rather nice distancing myself a bit more from the computer lately. So what’s gone on lately?

Well, we had our marriage blessed last Sunday. It was a small gathering, short and sweet service too. I loved it. A friend of mine even bought me flowers since I didn’t have flowers of my own when Bry and I got married in Vegas. Very sweet of her!

Then John had a well baby appointment, the last one with Dr. T, we now have Dr. S. Once more she was super quick and didn’t leave room for questions. She just stripped him, shoved us out the door to immunizations, and to prescriptions. How nice, right? :P I even had to call the clinic later to find out his weight, length, and head circumfrence. Rediculous!

We’ve also started and now stopped John on solids. Last week we started oatmeal and he started developing a minor rash. It wasn’t getting better once we stopped the oatmeal and switched back to rice so we made an appointment. This time we saw Dr. S, a far better, more personable doctor. I told him that I thought it might be eczema or a food reaction. He thought it might also be a topical thing (ie lotions, detergents, etc). He ordered that we stay away from solids for him for a month, use this cream he prescribed us, and come back in a month to see how it went.

Baby stats: 15 pounds 10 ounces, 26 inches long, and 16.5 inches head circumfrence as of yesterday. He had gained just over a pound and one inch in length in a week and a half!

I also had a night out with some girl friends recently. It was nice to get out for a bit.

Later, I will put some pics up. I want to wait until I have the ones from the marriage blessing so I can get everything up at once.
